More information
This itinerary is specifically made for those who love to discover the less known places in Holland. The city of Leiden has a vibrant history. Visiting the impressive windmills and the unobstructed typical Dutch view from a ship is something you will see once in a lifetime!
Day 1 - Kagerplassen & mill 'Lisserpoelmolen'
The beautiful area of Kagerplassen is famous for its small islands and is characterised by the 14 restored mills, all of which are still in operation. When circumstances permit, the guests will disembark and tour one of the mills during the cruise. The miller will explain how the mill operates and operated in the past. In the early 17th century, there were over 80 mills around ‘Kagerplassen’. Nowadays still are 25 left. During your cruise, your captain will point out highlights of the trip. After the cruise, we visit Katwijk and the lovely beach area, where you get free time to stroll the boulevard, do some shopping or dip in the sea. At dinner time, we offer a lovely meal in one of the restaurants in Katwijk.
Day 2 – Leiden
After a beautiful cruise, where the guests will enjoy beautiful houses and a typical Dutch landscape, they will visit Leiden. Leiden is the university city that is best known as the birthplace of Rembrandt. Here, the world-famous master took his first steps towards a fabulous painter's existence. It is also known for the old city centre with canals, monumental buildings, and courtyards. The guide takes the guests on a one-hour walk through the numerous courtyards, of which the oldest is dated back to 1572.
Optional extra day – Zaanse Schans/Volendam
With an extra night, you can extend this trip to a 3-day program. At Zaanse Schans, you will find authentic homes from the 17th century, windmills, a pewter factory, a cheese farm, and other traditional handicraft activities. Later, we continue to Volendam, which looks like a living postcard with windmills, pointy-roofed fishermen's houses, and costumed characters. We offer you a free guided visit and cheese tasting at the famous Dutch cheese factory on this tour.
